About
My paintings are held in private collections worldwide, and my work has been featured in publications and recognized with multiple awards.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved making things. Growing up, both of my grandmothers’ homes were places filled with warmth and creativity. I spent time creating alongside them, learning to value patience, care, and the joy of making something with my hands. Those early experiences shaped the way I approach art today—the process is just as meaningful to me as the finished piece.
I studied art and received my BA in Art History and Fine Art from Kent State University. My education deepened my appreciation for timeless craftsmanship and strengthened my foundation in both technical skill and visual storytelling.
I am inspired by nature, animals, and the quiet moments that often go unnoticed. My work blends realism with emotion, focusing on uplifting beauty through intentional color choices and the way light transforms a scene.
Color and light are central to my paintings. I’m drawn to the way light can soften, glow, and completely shift the mood of a subject. While my work is rooted in realism, I often incorporate unique or unexpected color combinations to enhance things that I find beautiful. I build each piece slowly in layers of oil paint, allowing depth and richness to develop over time.
I aim to create pieces that not only add beauty and brighten your space but also bring you joy.
Outside of the studio, I value quality time spent with my pets and family. I value a slower, more intentional way of living, and that mindset carries into everything I create.
I sometimes accept commissions when time permits. If you have an idea for a custom piece or would like to chat, send me a message jessrichterart@gmail.com
